INTRODUCTION
_ATTENTION: practical attentiveness through the physical body and the environs.
_BURN: tools for improvisation and composition.
_PLAY: practising effective performative measures and public openness.
A laboratory in which to explore the decision-making process in the performative context, in improvisation and composition.
Through a set of physical games, oriented towards developing attentiveness, we will analyse the relationships which we activate in each performative action. We will practice walking as a practice of silence: a form of collective meditation, which sharpens the capacity for attentiveness and reveals individual decision-making patterns. At the end of the workshop, the working group will stage two performances, at the Plaça Major at Santa Eulàlia de Riuprimer, and the Escola d'Art i Superior de Disseny de Vic.
WORKSHOP CONTENT
"Because in reality, all human error, poetic or spiritual, is no more, in essence, than inattentiveness." (Cristina Campo)
No landscape is completely describable. When we wish to report an experience, we always end up by leaving something out. Perception, in the experience of the world in which we exist, is always elsewhere, is not in our palette of descriptive tools, when different sets of possible relationships coexist. Through artistic practice, we have the opportunity to resist the tendency to prejudge. We will train the body to face events as though they were happening for the first time.
The structure of the work will follow three approaches, with different interrelated practical activities:
_ATTENTION: practical attentiveness through the body and the environs.
During the laboratory, an extensive part of the work will be dedicated to the practice of walking outdoors while applying different protocols. This set of practices will form a training in both physical fitness and concentration. We intend to practice walking as a practice of silence; as a form of collective meditation, which sharpens the capacity for attention, reveals the patterns of decision-making, nourishes desires, helps to welcome the unknown and to renounce the expectations of accomplishment.
_BURN: tools for improvisation and composition.
The practice of walking will be a preparation of different game-based activities which will narrow down the outer landscape (forests, fields, hills, etc.,) to a more readable landscape. This part of the work will focus on the practice of mapping, and the establishment of rules and a common performatic vocabulary.
_PLAY: practicing effective performative measures and public openness.
At the end of the workshop, the group will participate in a public performance. We will deal with the transformation of everyday spaces through performative intervention. The game will be a means to change the public perception of the context, with a poetic reconnection of the actions with the mythical memories which are hidden there.
WHO IS THE WORKSHOP AIMED AT?
The laboratory is open to anyone interested in artistic and performative practices as a form of knowledge.
Applicants should take into account that the work will be intense from a physical and performative point of view, and that there will be a final performance open to the public.
Applicants need not have previous experience in the field of performance.
