For pre-school, primary and secondary school teachers enrolled in the 9th edition of Art and School, since course contents will be linked to the Art and School theme for the 2019-20 course.

12 hours, comprising 6 sessions of 2 hours each.
Wednesdays 23rd and 30th October // 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th November 6 to 8 pm aimed at pre-school, and first stage primary teachers
Thursdays 24th and 31st October and 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th November 6 to 8 pm aimed at middle and upper school primary and secondary teachers

WORKSHOP CONTENTS
The main objective of the workshop is to provide tools and support for teachers enrolled in Art and School 2019-20. Our initial premise is that art is a language that we must learn to read and speak. As with other languages, learning it will be a question of practice and curiosity. Our intention is to provide a close-up view on the arts, in order to provide participants with a rewarding experience enriched with knowledge.
In each session, participants will explore artistic examples and share experiences. Teachers will be invited to begin a discussion of course-work in order to open a collective dialogue on initial ideas, and to learn from each other.
Workshop contents will be organised into three blocks, preceded by an introductory session:
Introduction: Contemporary artistic language: what are we talking about?
(1 session conducted by Anna Dot)
- Contemporary artistic practices in context:. What are they, and why apply them to school? Art as a form of knowledge.
- Characteristics of work in art: predisposition to change and uncertainty, incorporation of randomness, questioning the impossible.
- A review of examples: artists in educational contexts (Pilvi Takala, Allan Kaprow, Palle Nielsen ...)
1. How to develop an artistic project?
(2 sessions conducted by Alicia Casadesús)
- The different parts of the artistic project.
- Resources to reveal students’ creative potential.
- Art as a transversal tool for education
2. Tools, materials and experiences
(2 sessions conducted by Maria Montserrat)
- Tools, materials and experiences for using contemporary art practices in work.
- What material do we use to do what?
- Can we go beyond school supplies? Do we have access to other materials?
3. How to translate the school’s experience to the exhibition
(1 session conducted by Alicia Casadesús)
- The importance of communicating the artistic experience.
- Tools to communicate what we have done and experienced, whether a material result, or a happening.
TEACHERS
Team from the Torelló Arts School. For the team of the Arts School of Torelló, the pedagogical value of the visual arts goes far beyond the short spells of manual work such as colouring drawings or trimming cut-outs. Goal-orientated exercises, requiring students to follow steps marked out by the teacher using specific techniques, represent only a small part of what the arts encompass. To understand art pedagogy as simple "craft lessons" is to reduce the educational possibilities of this area.
Art in general, and visual arts education in particular, are tools that bring us closer to new knowledge, which let us develop our senses, enrich our capacity for self-expression, and expand our ways of interpreting the world. Art allows us to communicate, because it is a language that is as important as the languages which we use in school, a form of expression with a visual grammar formed by its own alphabet (lines, points, colours, textures, shapes, and so on). The aim of the visual arts class is to join these elements together, and use them to build phrases that allow children to express themselves.
