ACVIC Centre d’Arts Contemporànies and Galeria Tres-e-u invite you to the presentation of the photobook Sota la llum del mar by photographer Espe Pons (Barcelona, 1973).
The event will take place on Wednesday, May 25th at 7 pm at ACVIC with the artist.
SOTA LA LLUM DEL MAR is a photographic essay that aims to do justice to all the victims of the Franco regime in Spain during the Civil War and the post-war period. The project is based on the story of the younger brother of the photographer’s grandfather, Tomàs Pons Albesa, who was shot at the Camp de la Bota in Barcelona in 1941 at the age of 31. In order to trace this story, the artist has travelled through the places that Tomàs Pons Albesa visited during the last moments of his life, and has collected information from the time related to the case with the aim of reconstructing a hitherto fragmented history.
Under the light of the sea was exhibited at the Fundació Vila Casas’s Palau Solterra Museum in 2020, in 2021 at the MUME, Museu Memorial de l’Exili, Belgrade’s Muzej Grada Beograda, the Castell de Montjuïc with the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona, and in 2022, at the Jersey City Theater Center in Jersey City, New York
The photobook won one of the Premi Fundació Banc Sabadell Awards at the ARTSLIBRIS 2021 International Artist Book Fair in Barcelona.
