ART+ESCOLA+REFUGI is an exhibition of projects made in schools participating in the Art i Escola 08 programme of activities based on the concept of Refuge.
Students from a number of schools have experimented with sculpture, photography, performance art, painting, and many other art practices, realising artistic activites running from constructing a hut in the school playground to passing the night in school, by way of writing songs about the conflict in Syria, of considering the protection offered by wearing a mask, or of considering the love which awakens embraces.
A shelter is a protection against danger, against the elements. It can be a place to hide, to protect yourself from fears, from others, or even from yourself.
A hut is a shelter.
A mountain refuge.
An anti-aircraft shelter.
A refuge for fishermen.
A nest, a den.
An umbrella
A costume, a mask.
The house.
There are symbolic shelters: friendship, family, love.
The school. An association, a group.
The posse, the group with which you identify, and which protects you.
Also an urban tribe acts as a shelter, in which you come together as equals.
Or fashion or the "comfort zone".
Language itself, a reality which we comprehend. The song that makes us feel good.
But a refuge may also have a negative connotation, when it becomes repressive or isolating, like certain addictions.
Studying the current political and social situation, we may consider the topic of eviction from shelter, or the situation that brings thousands of people to leave their country and seek refuge in an outside country. The refugee crisis. Political asylum. Refugee camps.

WHAT IS ART I ESCOLA?
Art i Escola is a programme, started in 2011, promoted by ACVIC Centre d’Arts Contemporànies and Centre de Recursos Pedagògics d’Osona, in collaboration with Cal Gras, Col·legi d’Arquitectes, Delegació d’Osona, Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de Vic, ExAbrupto, H. Associació per a les Arts Contemporànies, Materials Educatius, Pakdart, Universitat de Vic-Universitat Central de Catalunya and other organisations.
ART i ESCOLA is a programme to promote and highlight the presence of art schools. Each edition is developed jointly with participating nursery, primary and secondary schools
So far, there have been seven editions of Art and School; in each of them, more than 25 schools participated, mainly in the Osona region but also in the Bages, Moianès, Ripollès, Solsonès, Vallès Oriental and Vallès Occidental.
Since the AE06 edition, with the collaboration of the Associació Cultural de Granollers, the programme has been expanded to the Vallès Oriental, with the participation of 3 schools in the first year and 5 in the second.
AE is an initiative to establish a network of collaborations between various agents working in the field of art and education.
Art and School aims to promote collaborative processes, to recognise and share work in schools in connection with the arts, to exchange approaches and methodologies among participants, to bring to school elements which form part of contemporary cultural debates.
During the 2018-19 school year, 37 different schools with 38 projects have participated in Art i Escola (AE08). A total of 3.322 pupils.
