5 YEARS OF SELF-MANAGEMENT, CHAOS AND CULTURE IN VIC

expo clota difusió BR

A retrospective of activities realised so far by the Association
La Clota
17.06 – 24.07.2021

Opening of the exhibition, Thursday 17th June at 7 pm
at ACVIC. Centre d'Arts Contemporànies (Sant Francesc, 1 Vic)

La Clota is an association in Vic that works within the artistic and social fields to realise cultural activities such as scheduling concerts, producing events ( e.g. Adoberies Fest, Arrel Quadrada) or recently, creating a broadcast studio and a radio station (Ràdioclota). The association also provides workshops for schools and further education centres, and has collaborated with a variety of local organisations and social and cultural agents, covering events through the radio, offering technical and logistical support, and coming together to generate cultural synergies within the town.

The collective, created in 2016 in Vic’s Adoberies (Tanneries) district, is celebrating five years since its founding, and will demonstrate in this exhibition the journey that has led the association from its beginnings in activism on the abandoned lot of the Méder riverbed, to its present broader impact, working in many different spaces and with a variety of cultural activities. Using the format of a retrospective exhibition, the collective has laid out a visual route along their timeline that incorporates the variety of activities, actions, collaborations and commitments to social and cultural issues during these intitial five years. The objective is to contextualise the entire imaginary that the La Clota project has brought together over the years, tracing objects, audiovisual archives and textual chronicles.

A new image, and the creation of a web site. Coinciding with this fifth anniversary, La Clota is in the process of setting up a new website that, like the present exhibition, attempts to bring together all the fronts of activity that the association has opened up, in an exercise which collects and presents to visitors the collective’s various strands of action. On the exhibition’s opening day, the new logo and graphic style will be displayed for the first time, projected prominently in the hall, symbolising the collective’s renewal in the present.

What moves you? Why do you do the things you do? What are you looking for? What do you plan to do with your leisure time? Are you looking for something miraculous, impossible and for real? What’s inside you? What do you need? Do you want to reach the heart of the matter? What hurts you? What do you long for? What makes you angry? What do you want to change? What role do you wish to play? What do you think you came here to do? Is it hard for you to express yourself? What does it mean to grow? What are you hiding from? What is an exchange? Do you hear that sound that is yours and no one else’s? Do you believe in the voice that comes from within you? Where do you come from, where have you come from? What bothers you? What is important? Who takes advantage? What is the real thing? What is essential for living? Why do we run, what do we run from? Where are we going? How long does this story last? What do you think we are missing? Do you recognise yourself? Do you choose or do others choose? Who governs? What controls you? Do you do things by instinct or out of inertia? Do you know what you think? Do you think enough of your feelings to not be a slave? Or do you prefer to be nothing? What are you afraid of, if this is all just a game and the only person you have to deal with is you?
