GUIDED VISIT FOR GROUPS

Frederic Amat considers the book as a space, as a hole that lets us enter other possible worlds. His artist books are pictorial landscapes, in which the image accompanies the text just as much as the text accompanies the image, and in which both the book’s content and its containment, the format of the book itself, are equally important. For the first time, the books of artist Frederic Amat have been gathered together in an exhibition.

A review of Amat’s career captures the echo of the first avant-garde and, at the same time, shows the transition between the second avant-garde and post modernity, based on the influences which artists such as Miró or Chilida exercised upon him, and his collaborations with artists, writers and graphic designers such as Joan Brossa, J. V. Foix and even Ida Vitale or Vicenç Altaió himself.

This exhibition will set out a discourse on visual poetry, the process of creating an artist’s book, the relationship between image and text, and also the collaboration between artists and writers. It will discuss the differences between an illustrated album and an artist's book. And it will also show various techniques that Amat uses in the reproduction of his works: screen printing, engraving, lithography, photocopying, and so on.

The aim of ACVic’s guided tours is to familiarise visitors with contemporary art in order to enhance their experience of culture, and to encourage critical perspectives.

RELATED EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY
The Thousand and One Nights

The guided tour of the exhibition ends before a wall with more than 180 pictures on it. Which book do they belong to? Is there anything recognisable in them? What emotions do they convey? When is the story set? Or in which culture is it set?

These are some of the questions that will start off the open debate in front of the artwork, questions through which visitors will learn the history hidden in The Thousand and One Nights.

Visitors will then take a tour around ACVIC in order to gain inspiration and to create their own personal artist’s book.
