VISION - REVISION / ART-EDUCATION

Present. Art in school, art in university, art in training programmes, which part does art play, and which roles does it develop? Which existing projects validate this relationship? Are these projects repeating the same patterns or opening up new channels of experimentation? What role do cultural institutions play in this area?

Conditional. What should the relationship be between artistic practices and educational practices? Which framework should be put in place to develop this relationship? Cultural policy, education policy, social policy, local policies: what factors should be brought into play to encourage different areas with common interests to come closer together?

Future.
Artless Education? Society without art? Education based upon creative processes? What models can help to guide us? Which possible futures would we like to see?

FORUM QUAM 2014 is a combination of a debate panel and a presentation of projects or communications, plus commented sessions of each project by members participating in the debate table and an open dialogue among participants. These projects and presentations will be selected through an open call. The combined session incorporates a vision and a critical revision of issues pertinent to the relationship between art and education in specific contemporary  contexts.
Participants in the debate table and revision of projects:
Jordi Colomer, artista; Martí Peran, comisario independiente y profesor de la Universitat de Barcelona; Rosa Pera, comisaria independiente; Glòria Picazo, directora del Centre d'Art la Panera; Isabel Rueda, artista y profesora de la Universidad de Vigo, Dolors Juarez/Experimentem amb l'ART, educational organization that works from contemporary art and creative process.

Objectives

This edition of Quam seeks to promote analysis and discussion based on projects undertaken in the fields of contemporary art practices and educational practices. Discussing, learning and broadening experiences regarding creative projects and proposals which seek interdisciplinarity among the artistic, sociocultural and educational fields.

Areas of Interest

- Proposals arising both from the fields of education and arts, which jointly seek involvement, and which are situated in spaces of shared permeability.

- Works which combine artistic and educational elements influencing social space, which are mediated by aspects of the relationships between individuals, groups or communities, and elements of the site (symbolic, historical, or common issues.)

- Projects based on processes attempting to establish a medium to long term relationship with the context in which they act, producing symbolic value and directly intersecting with other activities carried out on the site.

- Practices which may be socialised, i.e., open projects which may be reused, reproduced and reformulated.

- Case studies displaying innovative teaching methods.
- Perspectives centred upon opening channels between the art institution, the educational institution and/or the general public, to promote creative interaction.
- Works of research upon the intersection between art and education.

Target
Artists, art critics, teachers, educators, social scientists, cultural managers and creators interested in the relationship between cultural, education and social policies. Also aimed at students in these and other disciplines who find common ground with this intersection.

WORKSHOP QUAM 2014
JORDI COLOMER | TWO UNKNOWN
27-28.11.2014

From 10 am to 14 am and from 4 pm to 7 pm
Place: ACVic Centre d'Arts Contemporànies. C. Sant Francesc, 1 Vic

For Richard Sennett, public space may be defined simply as the place where two strangers meet.
The proposed aim of the workshop is a two-way study based upon a landmark of the city of Vic – The Plaça Major: working with the physical space, and with the memory contained in different historical audio-visual archives. It is about creating new situations to reawaken the images which survive within the folds of the immediate imaginary, and to place the present in a critical situation.
