Introduction
The seminar has as its starting point the exhibition curated by Jorge Luis Marzo and Teresa Badia, "The Baroque d_efect," shown at the CCCB November 2010 to February 2011.
Through the archive of documents prepared for the exhibition, this seminar aims to analyze the myth of Hispanicity, i.e. "Spanishness", as a common and homogeneous framework between Spain and Latin America, and how artistic and cultural strategies have helped to create over time a homogenising official story, the Hispanic myth, for the durability of which artists must bear a great deal of responsibility. The seminar provides research tools which bring added value to any lines of discussion, with a constant input of viewpoints and parallel experiences .
Objectives
- To analyse the relationship between the Hispanic myth and its main survival strategy: the Baroque as a model of cultural policy.
- To reflect on the relationship between art and cultural policies.
- Reflection, participation and dissemination
Contents of course
Presentation of the seminar, lines of research and mechanisms of participation.
The brand: Culture and identity. How is a stereotype constructed? Marks of identity are determined by the national heritage of permanently reinforced myths which become difficult to undo. Identity Myths are increasingly becoming ruins of the past, while generating huge amounts of money.
The function of images. Images have been, and remain, vehicles for social economic, political and cultural strategies, beyond their formalist interpretation in art. So-called "baroque", for example, rather than a historical style, has been a way of capturing a historical pedagogy, a politics of memory.
How much responsiblity do artists bear for the official dissemination of myths?
The politics of the image. The public cultural policies have a clear responsibility in the management of official resources with regard to images : art has been the umbilical cord connecting the nation and its people to the past. How does this affect the productive reality of a country? Why has access to culture become a substitute for access to politics?
Who is it aimed at?
Especially interesting for students and professionals in journalism, audiovisual communication, art history, design, artistic practice, cultural management, tourism, and heritage management and promotion. Also open to people with little professional knowledge of the arts.
